Amazon.com: Great Prices! Great Support!

Many blogs act as watchdogs and whistle blowers; they help you find out who is bad and who is good.

For the most part, I try to report on what companies are doing a GREAT job. So, if it seems like all of my reviews are positive, it’s because that’s what I focus on.

I do a lot of online shopping, but I’m am always a little hestitant to buy electronic equipment because I worry that if I have to return a defective product, it will be a big pain. If you buy, say, a digital camera in a store and it doesn’t work, you can easily return to the store and exchange or return the defective product.

But what if you bought the camera online? How will you get it back to the online store? And how much will the return shipping cost you? And how much of your valuable time will you have to waste packaging and shipping the product?

These were my exact thoughts when I needed a new digital camera last winter. Unfortunately, I live in a rural area and do not have easy access to electronics stores. So I did my camera research online and found the best price at Amazon.com. I ordered the camera from Amazon and I received my camera in less than a week. And with free shipping!

Unfortunately, the camera was defective and I had to return it. Oh boy, I thought, now I am going to pay the price for buying on the internet. Not so. I looked up the product return policies and procedures on the Amazon store and found a clearly defined return policy. Note that it was VERY easy to find Amazon’s return policy and procedure. This was a big plus. On some sites, finding support or return information is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

The procedure couldn’t have been eaiser. From my account history, I selected the product I wanted to return, then I indicated why I was returning the product and that I wanted a replacement product shipped to me. Amazon’s return program guided me in printing a free UPS shipping label; all I had to do is rebox the product and drop if off at a UPS drop station (I think you can have UPS pick up the return item too). At the end of the return procedure, I received an email that said my new camera was being shipped that day.

The whole return policy was fair, free, and painless. And Amazon gained a faithful customer. In this day of cut-throat prices, often what you gain in saving you lose in service. Not with Amazon. They offer  GREAT prices and GREAT service.
