Favicons are those little icons that appear next to the url in modern web browsers. A few years ago, it was a real pain to create one of these things. Niether Photoshop or Illustrator could export an icon into the correct format for favicon.ico. There were numerous tools you could download (usually Windows only) that would do the job, but they were clunky. I used to waste about an hour each time I created one.

Until I discovered the web-based Favicon Generator by Dynamic Drive. Dynamic Drive is a website or portal that hosts hundreds of awesome, free javascripts. They also have a great online tool for creating a favicon.ico file from a .gif, .jpg, .png, or .bmp file. Just browse to the file on your computer and presto: the Favicon Generator instantly generates your new favicon. Click a button to download it and link it to your site and your done.
