Installing Joomla 1.5 Security Updates: Best way to Upload the Files
Joomla 1.5 has had 14 Security Updates since it started, and a new one is on the way. Applying a new update is pretty easy: Just upload the update to your webserver. But uploading is easier said than done. The 1.5.14 update contains over 1,400 files. It can take a LONG time to upload that many files; plus there’s a good chance that you will get a transfer error with that many files. Read on to learn the easy way.
The easiest way to upload a Joomla update is to FTP the .zip file of the update and then expand it on your server. That way, you only have to upload one file, and it’s much faster.
Unfortunately, CPanel doesn’t overwrite existing files when you extract a .zip file, so your Joomla update will fail.
The ANSWER: Download the .tar.gz version of the update. Cpanel DOES overwrite existing files when you extract them for a .tar.gz file. Now your Joomla Updates can go fast and smooth!
