Joomla Module Review: MetaMod

Written by Pat Fortino on . Posted in Joomla, Joomla Extensions

Joomla Module Review: MetaModJoomla allows you to assign modules to pages that are linked to a menu. Unfortunately, you cannot assign a module to a page that is not linked to a menu. For example, you can link to a Section or Category and when you click that link, it will display links to all articles in the Section or Category. Unfortunately, you cannot assign a module to the articles that are listed for a Section or Category. The only way to get a module to appear on these articles is to link those articles directly to the menu or to assign the module to ALL pages. But neither of these solutions is practical if you want to automatically list all articles in a Section or Category. MetaMod to the rescue.

Joomla Extension Review: 2J News Slider

Written by Pat Fortino on . Posted in Joomla, Joomla Extensions

The 2J News Slider is a great, commercial Joomla News component that creates a slideshow from your articles. If you want an automatic slideshow that shows the article intro and thumbnail for articles in a section or category, this is the tool.

This Joomla News Slider cost $30, but it’s well worth it. 2J News Slider is easy to set up and configure. Just publish the module to a position and point it at a section or category. If you want, the look and feel can be adjusted using the CSS style sheet.

Features:

  • random article selection
  • configurable article rotation: ordering, creation date, hits, or votes
  • show article titles only
  • several transition / fade effects to choose from

If you want to add some zing to your home page, this is a great Joomla News component.
