Do you need a free, powerful, full-featured, easy-to-use calendar that works in WordPress or Joomla? Google Calendar is a great solution and you don’t need another extension or plugin to use it.
I see lots of posts on the Joomla forum that ask how to move a Joomla website. This video tutorial explains how to use cPanel to move your Joomla website to a different host. You can also use this procedure to move a Joomla website from MAMP or XAMP to a web host. Also see How to Move a Joomla Website Using Akeeba.
Moving a Joomla website to a different server is pretty easy even if you don’t built websites for a living. The following tutorial explains the somewhat automated method using Akeeba backup. Also, see How to Move a Joomla Website Using cPanel.
DocMan document management and download extension for Joomla is a powerful and easy to use tool for managing document and file downloads. I recently installed and configured it for a client and found it to be very easy to set up; a great relief since the client wanted many different groups with different access permissions.
After the Joomla 2012 Joomla World Conference, the release schedule has been updated, or slowed down more like it. Joomla 3.5 will not be released until early to mid 2014. So if you were holding out to upgrade from 1.5 to 3.5, might as well jump on to Joomla 2.5. Joomla 2.5 is a Long Term Release and will be supported until mid 2014. And don’t forget, there is still a dearth of extensions for 3.5. Consider 3.5 a developer’s sneak preview that is not ready for prime time. Joomla 2.5 is the current version of Joomla.
Joomla today announced the 3.0.2 security release. If you are running Joomla 3.0 or 3.0.1, you should upgrade immediately.
The release contains a security fix plus over 50 issue tracker fixes. Alway make a complete backup of Joomla before upgrading. If you don’t know how, install Akeeba backup to automatically create an installable backup of all your Joomla files and database.
Joomla just released the 2.5.8 update and already the Joomla forum has a many threads regarding upgrade problems: database errors, error messages, etc. Some people recommend downloading the package and manually installing it using the extension manager.
I just ran the update on a test site and there were no problems. Your mileage may vary.
My advice it to wait a few days and keep reading the forum to see if the issues get sorted out.
Just read this great article about how to build a responsive Joomla template using Twitter Bootstrap. If you understand HTML and CSS and have built or modified Joomla templates, you’ll be right at home with this article. Otherwise, it might be over your head.
