FrameMaker FAQs
- Trouble Installing Frame 7.x and Acrobat 7.0
The following is the correct installation order for installing/updating FrameMaker and Acrobat:
You should uninstall any existing Acrobat version before installing 7.0. The upgrade version of the Acrobat 7.0 release does require you to validate that you have a valid license for a previous version of Acrobat, but the verification methods include inserting the old CD-ROM (for a non-upgrade copy) or contacting Adobe to verify your registered serial number.
After installing Acrobat, you should be able to install FrameMaker without a problem. The problem Jim reports only occurs if you install Acrobat *after* FrameMaker. In Jim's case reinstalling FrameMaker (after making a backup copy of maker.ini to retain plug-ins and other customizations) after installing the Acrobat upgrade restores the Save As PDF function because FrameMaker's installation needs to be able to find the Acrobat installation to make the function work. - How can I make FrameMaker show the next screen of text instead of the next page when I push the Page Up or Page Down buttons?
Add the following lines to your customui.cfg file (loated in C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker7.0\fminit\configui):- <Modify GotoPreviousScreen <KeySequence /PgUp>>
- <Modify GotoNextScreen <KeySequence /PgDn>>
- <Modify GotoNextPage <KeySequence ~ /PgDn>>
- <Modify GotoPreviousPage <KeySequence ~ /PgUp>
- When I export Visio drawings as EPS, import to Frame, and then create a PDF, they look terrible?
One process that is known to work with Visio:- From Visio, print to the Acrobat Distiller virtual printer (or print to a PostScript file and then distill) to produce a PDF.
- Open the PDF in Acrobat.
- Use Document > Crop Document to get rid of excess white space (assuming the image is smaller than the default page size).
- Use File>Export>Export PostScript or EPS to export the image as EPS with preview.
Note: when you use this method, the eps image will be preview only in frame and will print low quality in Frame. To view the image correctly, distill to pdf and then print
