As you probably already know, the Joomla 2.5.5 and 2.5.6 updates have been plagued with bugs. Big Bugs. Here’s another one to add to the list: jUpgrade, the Joomla component for upgrading from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5, does not work with Joomla 2.5.6, the current Joomla release. Bottom line: You need to use Joomla 2.5.4 to upgrade from Joomla 1.5.25 to Joomla 2.5.
If you are trying to migrate a Joomla 1.5 website to Joomla 2.5, most likely the migration will fail. The reason for this is that Joomla 2.5.6 is not compatible with jUpgrade. Be default, jUpgrade uses the latest Joomla version. Fortunately, you can override this.
The following prodedure explains a work around for the issue.
Note: This procedure assume you have already followed the instructions for migrating Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 and jUpgrade is failing during the migration process: http://docs.joomla.org/Migrating_from_Joomla_1.5_to_Joomla_1.6
- Go to Extensions > jUpgrade.
- Click Parameters.
- Select Yes for the Skip Download option.
- Select Yes for the Skip Decompress option.
- Select No for the Delete previous migrationoption
- Click Save.Pages: Page 1 Page 2

Thank you Pat.
I was stuck with this jUpgrade problem even though it was upgrading to joomla 2.5.8. JUpgrade website was down so was having trouble finding a solution. Luckily your post appeared in a search for the problem, and it worked a treat. Thanks for saving me major headaches!

Had been wrestling with this problem for couple weeks now… very frustrating. Turns out it was what you said… JUpgrade works with Joomla 2.5.4 but not later versions.
Thanks for posting this (simple) solution!

I’m not sure if i’m looking in the wrong place or not? But my Joomla root already has a jupgrade folder?
Pat Fortino says
If jupgrade folder is already there it means you already ran the upgrade tool

Hi Pat, I want to thank you for this post. The only glitch I ran into was the permissions weren’t set high enough on the Sql server. Once I made that change, and followed your instructions, the process went perfectly. Thanks again!

Hey Pat I have just tried this and it didn’t work. On your how to, Step 11 reads:
If you still have problems with jUpgrade, see the following forum post on jUpgrade; it addresses this issue.
There doesn’t appear to be a forum link. Please could you let us have it?
Thanks in advance.
