Automatic Newsletters from WordPress Blog Using MailChimp

May 20, 2013 by Pat Fortino

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could automatically send out a newsletter once a week whenever you have new WordPress blog posts? Here’s how to do it using MailChimp. Also see Add MailChimp Newsletter Signup Form to WordPress.

The following procedure requires that you have a MailChimp account. If you don’t have one, go to http://mailchimp.com and get a free account. MailChimp is free if you have up to 2000 subscribers and send less than 12,000 emails per month.

  1. Log into MailChimp.
  2. If you don’t already have a subscriber list, create one. To create a list, from the main MailChimp menu, select Lists and then click Create List and fill in the necessary information.
  3. Create a MailChimp campaign. From the main MailChimp menu, click Campaigns and then click Create Campaign > RSS-Driven Campaign.

  4. RSS Feed And Send Timing – Enter the RSS feed URL for your blog. For example, https://writenowdesign.com/feed. If you’re not sure, go to your site and enter /feed after your domain name; you should see an XML feed page displayed.
  5. In the section called When should we send?, specify the frequency. Once a week is probably enough; you don’t want to inundate your subscribers with email every day.
