YooTheme Warp Profiles allow you to save different template Styles and then assign them to specific pages, posts, or categories. Each YooTheme template comes with several profiles. Sometimes the profiles have different layouts, colors, font or background images, or all of the above. For example, the Nano template has 8 profiles. Each of these profiles is a great place to start your customization of the template. Once you pick the profile that is the closest to your design goals, you can then use YooTheme template Styles to customize the Profile.
Even though each template comes with several template profiles that significantly change the look of the template, you will probably find you want to customize the profile, say, by changing font size and color, changing background images, adding height to the header, and so on.
YooTheme template Styles allow you to create your own variation to the template profile with style sheets and code overrides. Creating your own style is very simple and similar to WordPress child themes or to Joomla template overrides. You create a folder within the template styles directory and then add CSS files and code overrides.
Using YooTheme template styles has several advantages:
- Your style changes will not get overwritten when you upgrade the template or warp files. Like Joomla and WordPress, YooTheme continually releases updates to the Warp Framework and templates.
- You can take advantage of all the powerful features of the Warp framework and still create a custom Joomla or WordPress template.
- You can assign your custom styles to specific pages or categories of the site. As a result, you can create a site in which you can easily assign a different layouts and design to different parts of your site while using the same template.
Every YooTheme template comes with a mobile version of the template. The mobile templates work quite well right out of the box, but you can customize the mobile template by creating a custom mobile style. And like the custom desktop styles, your changes will not be overwritten when you upgrade the framework or template.
YooTheme sells two template subscriptions: 3 months or 12 months. With both subscriptions, you receive free updates as long as your subscription is current. Once your subscription has expired, your template will continue to work, but you won’t be able to download updates.
Another nice feature of the Warp Framework is that when it’s time to upgrade, Warp tells you what files you have modified. I am not talking about the custom styles you can create. These are never overwritten. However, sometimes, your customizations will require that you modify some of the core template or Warp files. If this is the case, Warp will present you with a list of the files you have modified so you can create backups of these files before you upgrade. Then, after you upgrade, you can manually integrate the template or framework upgrades into your modified files and then deploy them.
Learn One Framework for WordPress and Joomla
Learning any framework is like building a ship in a bottle: you can’t quite get your hands on the code. You have to go through the framework. Learning a framework usually requires a lot of time searching for answers in forums to find out how to do something that is normally very simple if you were using Joomla or WordPress without a framework.
As a result, Yootheme provides a big advantage if you are a Joomla AND WordPress developer: you need learn only one framework for both systems. Once you learn how to configure and customize a YooTheme Warp template, you will feel right at home whether it’s a WordPress or Joomla site. What’s more, whether you buy the WordPress or Joomla version of the template, they both work and look the same.
IMPORTANT: When you buy a YooTheme subscription, it is for WordPress OR Joomla, but not both. If you want access to both platforms, you’ll have to buy both subscriptions. Hint to YooTheme: Sell a special subscription that includes both!
